Transfer Path and Drawing

Copy the current drawing and tool path to a external media or other file backup location

The Transfer Path and Drawing command is designed to make it easy to save a finished drawing to an external storage device such as USB flash drive, CD disc, etc. This command may also be used to move a drawing to another computer.

The drawing (DXF), and the tool path (OMX) files are copied. The original files are not affected.

NOTE:

You can also use the Transfer Path and Drawing command to make a "backup" of your drawing. A copy saved on an external storage device (USB flash drive, CD, etc.) is your "backup" copy. If something happens to your computer (the hard drive crashes, your office burns, someone else accidentally erases your file), you have a backup copy so you don’t have to redo all your work. The best procedure is to make a backup at the end of each day, or when you are through working on the drawing for a while.

How to Transfer a Drawing to a Backup Device

1. Open the drawing to be transferred.

See Open for information on opening a file.

2. Insert a flash drive into the USB port.

3. Select Transfer Path and Drawing from the File menu.

If the file is to be copied to another place, select to other location… When this option is chosen, a dialog appears which lets you select the location for the file to be copied.

4. The drawing (DXF) and the tool path (OMX) files are copied to your chosen location. LAYOUT will display a message indicating the transfer was successful. Click OK to continue.

Click OK to continue

If the OMX files are not available (the tool path has yet to be generated), only the drawing file is copied.

Note: After transferring using removable media, it is important to properly dismount the media before unplugging it using the "safely eject...." tool in the Windows System Tray.
