Deselect

Deselect entities

Deselect removes entities from the selection set created with the Select command.

Selected entities are shown in yellow. When an entity is deselected, it returns to its original color (which usually reflects its Quality). Some commands (such as Insert) leave entities automatically selected for further operations.

NOTE:

If you click on the Deselect button with the left mouse button, this automatically chooses the Deselect Cursor command. The mouse wheel can be used to zoom-in and zoom-out while using this command.

Right-click Commands

Deselect Cursor

Choosing Deselect Cursor from the menu, changes the cursor to a pointing arrow. Each entity clicked with this cursor is deselected (removed from the selection set).
When finished deselecting individual entities, press Esc or choose another command.

Deselect All

Choosing Deselect All from the menu deselects all entities in the drawing. Every entity in the drawing will be deselected after using this command.

Deselect Window

Deselect all entities entirely within the window
Choosing Window from the Deselect right-click menu and specify the window for deselecting drawing entities. Only entities with both endpoints completely within the window are deselected.

After choosing Deselect Window, LAYOUT waits for one corner of the window to be chosen. Click where one corner of the window should be.

A blue box follows the cursor as it moves. Click the left mouse button when the window is the desired size and shape.

LAYOUT then deselects all entities that lie entirely within the window. Deselected entities return to their "normal" color (based on their Quality).

The Deselect Window command stay active only until another command is selected. This means windows can continue to be deselected until you have finished deselecting entities.

NOTE:

Unlike many drawing programs, you do not click and drag to specify the window. The first click defines one corner of the box, a second click defines the other corner.

Deselect Circular Window

Deselects all entities that are entirely within a circular window

Choose Circular Window from the Deselect right-click menu to use a circle to deselect drawing entities. Only entities with both endpoints completely within the circular window are deselected.

After clicking Circular Window, position the cursor to where you want the center of the circle to be located. Click the mouse at this point. Moving the cursor will now stretch the circle out from this center point. When all the entities you want deselected are within the circle, clicking the mouse deselects them.

NOTE:

Circular Window is activated, the cursor changes when placed on or near a circle's entity. Clicking the mouse at this time places the circular window at the circle's center. Stretch the window in or out to select the drawing entities you want deselected.

Deselect Connected

Deselects all entities connected to the entity clicked

Choosing Deselect Connected from the Deselect right-click menu allows selected entities to be deselected by simply clicking on them. Selected entities that are connected to the entity clicked, as well as selected entities that are connected to each other, are also deselected.

Deselect Connected continues deselecting entities until one of the following happens:

    • a dead end is reached
    • a "de-selected" entity is reached
    • an intersection is reached

When an intersection is reached, all the entities that make up the intersection are deselected.

NOTE:

It is possible to control Deselect Connected to force it to only deselect a portion of a connected sequence of entities. This is done by taking advantage of the fact that Deselect Connected will stop when it hits an existing deselected entity. For example, if one wished to only deselect a few teeth of a gear profile that is already fully selected, one might deselect the first entity that they desire to deselect, then the last entity they desire to deselect, and then run the Deselect Connected command and click on one entity that is in-between those two.

Invert Selection

Choosing Invert Selection changes the selected status of all entities on the drawing. Anything that is selected becomes deselected, and anything deselected becomes selected.

This is useful when selecting all but a few entities. Select those few entities and then use Invert Selection. (Using Select All followed by Deselect Cursor to deselect individual entities gives the same results.)
